Scotland's auditor general Caroline Gardner has been appointed one of three new non-executive directors of Public Sector Audit Appointments, the body that will oversee local audit contracts from next April.

Gardner is also a member of the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants. She will be joined on the board by Clive Grace, former deputy auditor general for Wales, and solicitor Stephen Sellers, who has an advisory role with the firm Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co. Former CIPFA chief executive Steve Freer was announced at the chair of the PSAA board in October.

Announcing the appointments, Freer said: ‘I am delighted that Caroline, Clive and Stephen are joining the board of PSAA. Their knowledge and experience will be invaluable as the company prepares to take on its new responsibilities in April and strives to maintain high quality audits for local public bodies.’

PSAA was established by the Local Government Association and will take on the management of local public sector audit contracts with private firms when the Audit Commission closes at the end of March and until the local appointment provisions of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 take effect.
