Organisers of the Government Counter Fraud Awards are sending their congratulations to the counter fraud teams who have been shortlisted for this year’s awards, with the full list now live.

A strong and diverse field of candidates from right across the public sector made selection very difficult for the panel members, and they highlight the exceptional work currently being done to protect public funds.

The initiatives and cases on show are on at the cutting edge of counter fraud best practice globally and concern a wide range of issues, from money laundering and organised crime, through to cyber and digital forensics.

Nominations were assessed against a range of criteria focusing on overall effectiveness, benefits, impact, innovation, sustainability, engagement and influence of the initiatives and cases.

The Cabinet Office, National Crime Agency (NCA), City of London Police (CoLP), and the CIPFA Counter Fraud Centre, would like to thank all entrants for their amazing work.

CIPFA chief executive Rob Whiteman said: “I continue to be blown away by the depth of experience, quality, and agility shown by the entrants to the Government Counter Fraud Awards, and look forward to sharing in their success at the ceremony in February.”

Mark Cheeseman, deputy director of public sector fraud at Cabinet Office, said: “These awards showcase the great work that is going on across the public sector to fight fraud and protect public services. As judges we were delighted by the quality of those who made the shortlist – just looking at what they had achieved was hugely motivational”

Steve Peck, NECC fraud threat team, said: “I was hugely impressed by the high standard of the entries for this years’ Government Counter Fraud Awards. The nominations are brilliant examples of a step-change going on in the UK’s approach to protecting the public and reducing the threat from economic crime, so let’s celebrate this great work.”

Excitement is now building ahead of the ceremony where the winners will be announced, taking place from 6.00 - 8.30 pm on 13 February 2019 at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, Westminster.
