Private developers and housing associations look set to share £200m in development grants that will be paid out by the Housing Corporation later this year.

Thirty-one bids, worth a total of £850m, have been short-listed for the corporation's New Partnerships in Affordable Housing programme - the first time non-registered social landlords have been eligible for public money.

Twelve of the bids were from RSLs, including five consortiums, while ten were submitted by non-RSLs, two in the form of consortiums. A further eight consortiums made up of housing associations and non-RSLs made the short list, while one bid was submitted by a company established specifically for the programme.

The corporation's chief executive, Jon Rouse, said it wanted competition to be maintained beyond the short list stage so that the grants paid reflected regional priorities.

'I am delighted at the quality of the response from the bidding market, as well as the range of RSLs and non-RSLs who make up the short list,' he said.
