Ian Mackintosh, current financial manager for South Asia at the World Bank, has been appointed to succeed Mary Keegan as chair of the UK's Accounting Standards Board.

Mackintosh will take up his post in August following Keegan's departure to the Treasury and will chair the ASB, which governs all UK accounting standards, including those for the public sector, for the next three years.

It will be a crucial period for the organisation during which he will oversee the continued merger of UK accounting practices with international standards.

Sir Bryan Nicholson, chair of the Financial Reporting Council, confirmed the appointment on June 8.
