The pandemic will still be affecting public finances long after it is over

The coronavirus outbreak, and the policy response to mitigate its consequences, will have ramifications for public finances that will far outlast the immediate public health crisis. Although the full scale of the economic hit will not be known with certainty for some time, it will clearly be substantial. Isabel Stockton, research economist at the Institute for Fiscal Studies, explains.
