Former council chief executive Darra Singh has been promoted to head of local public services for the UK and Ireland at EY.

Singh, who is also chairing the Independent Commission on Local Government Finance set up by CIPFA and the Local Government Association, will replace John Baker, who will work with the firm’s Australia practice.

Singh will now lead on EY’s work on local public services, which includes advising local authorities and public bodies on how to achieve efficient and enhanced services in the face of financial and delivery challenges. Singh was previously chief executive at both Ealing and Luton councils, as well as at Jobcentre Plus, and he also chaired the government-appointed Communities and Victims Panel, which investigated the causes of the London riots in 2011.
