CIPFA’s annual Tom Sowerby award for outstanding service to student education has been won by Paul Simpson, director of finance and procurement at Nottinghamshire County Council.
Simpson has led the establishment of CIPFA’s successful cross-sector co-operative training scheme in Nottinghamshire. The scheme sees county and district councils collaborating with fire and rescue and police authorities to jointly fund a pool of graduate trainees who are rotated between the services.
CIPFA president Mike Owen said: ‘Paul has consistently been a strong supporter of CIPFA and especially of CIPFA trainees.
‘We feel Paul deserves this award for his commitment to the continuous improvement of CIPFA’s offer to students.’
Tom Sowerby was CIPFA president in 1973/74 and the award has been presented annually since then.
