The 2012 CIPFA conference begins in Liverpool this week.

Speakers include Newsnight’s economics editor Paul Mason, campaigner and TV producer Phil Redmond, Sir John Gieve, former deputy governor of the Bank of England, and Paddy Ashdown, former leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Incoming CIPFA president Sir Tony Redmond will address delegates and formally open the conference on Wednesday morning.
