The British Chambers of Commerce is to lead a national network for the new Local Enterprise Partnerships.

Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles said this would provide a forum for local business leaders to share ideas, solve problems and get the data needed to promote economic growth.

He said: ‘British Chambers of Commerce came forward with a very strong proposal and with its existing business network across the country it is really well placed to anchor business at the centre of new local enterprise.’

BCC director general David Frost will chair the network, which will also include representatives from the CBI business lobby, the Federation of Small Businesses, the Institute of Directors and other organisations.

Frost said: ‘Our priority is to listen to local business leaders – this is their network.’

LEPs are partnerships between local authorities and businesses that are replacing regional development agencies. So far 30 have been launched, covering most of England.
