The Conservatives have dominated the ministerial appointments concerned with public services.
In the Department for Communities and Local Government, Tory big-hitter Eric Pickles will head up a ministerial team featuring fellow Conservatives Grant Schapps and Greg Clark in prominent roles.
Liberal Democrat Andrew Stunell and Tory Bob Neill will take up junior ministerial posts. (See news analysis on page 10).
LibDem Sarah Teather has been made minister for children working under Michael Gove at the Department for Education, but the schools portfolio has been reserved for Tory Nick Gibb.
Conservative Nick Herbert has been given responsibility for policing at the Ministry of Justice. Led by Ken Clarke, the MoJ has only Tory ministers.
Conservative Nick Hurd has been put in charge of ‘civil society’ – a broad brief within the Cabinet Office encompassing social enterprises, charities and voluntary organisations. That department, which oversees Whitehall, is to be run by Francis Maude, veteran of the John Major Tory cabinet.
