The Rural Services Network has given details of its manifesto for next year’s general election in an effort to keep countryside issues high on the political agenda.

On July 27 the network – a group of more than 250 public and private sector service providers – published a consultation paper to inform what it says will be a rural manifesto, to be published in November.

Chief executive Graham Biggs said: ‘The threat to rural schools, the lack of affordable housing and the high cost of living in the countryside are among the issues we expect people will want to raise.

‘Many services survive on a shoestring, which means that even small cuts can seriously undermine them.’
