Council tenants in Wakefield have voted by three to one in favour of a stock transfer.
The transfer of 34,500 homes to Wakefield and District Housing is the largest in this year's programme and will come as a boost to supporters of large-scale voluntary transfers (LSVTs).
The new landlord has promised to spend more than £700m improving properties. Under new rules, all the homes can now be transferred to a single landlord.
Council leader Peter Box said he was delighted that Wakefield was in effect creating the largest LSVT. Seventy-four per cent of tenants voted in favour of transfer on a 65% turnout.
