England's largest housing association has been thrown into turmoil after a governance row led to two board members losing their seats.

Other board members at Places For People, which owns about 52,000 homes, have threatened to resign over the way issues are dealt with by chair Sebert Cox and chief executive David Cowans.

The two board members to lose their seats were Alec Burford and Judith Harris-Jones. Cox, meanwhile, announced that he would not seek re-election after the annual general meeting on September 24.

Cox, who has been chair for five years, said later: 'We are operating in a changing and diverse sector, which continues to challenge us.'
