An unnamed district council has been fined £28,050 for more than 1,000 breaches of the Pensions Act in relation to information provided to local government pension scheme members.

The Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority (Opra) said the council was responsible for administering a section of the local government scheme involving 132 participating employers.

Opra found the council failed to provide a written statement of the cash equivalent to members within the statutory timescale in 57 cases. In addition, the council failed to give information to members leaving service about their rights and options in 1,010 cases.

In its defence, the council stated that the breaches were because of delays by employers in providing information. But Opra found against the council.
