The projects, targeted at the most deprived areas in England, will offer advice and support for parents on health, education and child development. The first projects, in areas including Bristol, Hull, Manchester and Oxford are expected to begin in early summer.

So far, the government has committed £80m for the scheme in 1999/2000 and will announce a further tranche of projects later this year.
