Across the public sector organisations are introducing initiatives aimed at supporting the concept of ‘smart working’ – defined by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development as:
“An approach to organising work that aims to drive greater efficiency and effectiveness in achieving job outcomes through a combination of flexibility, autonomy and collaboration, in parallel with optimising tools and working environments for employees.”
However, the technology now exists to go significantly further empowering citizens to access public services in more intuitive and convenient ways. At the same time, Cloud-based technologies for staff can reduce the need for face-to-face interactions by, for example, enabling collaborative working and development on-line, and delivering customer services from multiple locations. As well as delivering front-line efficiencies, therefore, Cloud can support improvements in outcomes and reduce the administrative burden on staff.
