Messages of sympathy and support have been sent to former CIPFA president Margaret Pratt after it emerged she and her husband Roger were the victims of a violent attack in the Caribbean.

The Pratts' yacht was moored off the island of St Lucia when robbers are believed to have boarded and attacked the couple in a raid that tragically left Roger Pratt dead.

Margaret Pratt was injured in the attack and treated in hospital, although she has since been discharged.

The couple had been enjoying a round-the-world sailing holiday and had recently celebrated Margaret’s 60th birthday.

CIPFA president Jaki Salisbury said: ‘I and all those at CIPFA are profoundly saddened by the news concerning Margaret Pratt and her husband Roger. Our deepest sympathies are with Margaret and her family at what must be an incredibly difficult time.’

Margaret Pratt served as CIPFA president in 1998/99 and was the institute’s first female president.

She has held a variety of senior management positions in the health service, including director of finance at Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust. Between 2001 and 2006 she was a non-executive member of the Standards Board for England.

If anyone would like to send their own messages of sympathy and support to Margaret and her family, CIPFA would be pleased to forward them on. Please send any correspondence to Margaret Pratt care of either: [email protected] or: Lynn Starr, CIPFA, 3 Robert Street, London, WC2N 6RL
