McGregor-Smith replaces Interserve chief executive Adrian Ringrose as leader of the board which represents public services companies in CBI policymaking.
Announcing her appointment, CBI director general John Cridland said: ‘The innovation and expertise of our public services companies will be crucial to maintaining high-quality services while helping to achieve the deficit reduction programme.
‘Ruby will play an important role in advising CBI policy in this area to make sure that these businesses can best support the UK economy and society.’
McGregor Smith added: ‘At a time when private provision is under intense scrutiny, that we demonstrate the positive impact that the private sector can making transforming services and generating value for taxpayers through greater competition.’
An economics graduate and chartered accountant who qualified with BDO Stoy Hayward, McGregor-Smith was appointed Mitie’s chief executive in 2007.
