Northern Ireland slashes spending on consultants

The Northern Ireland government has slashed the amount it spends on external consultants by more than a third.

The Northern Ireland government has slashed the amount it spends on external consultants by more than a third.

Departments spent £15.6m on 772 external consultancy projects in 2010/11, a reduction of 39% on the previous year.

The average cost of a consultancy project also fell by 19% to £21,000.

The figures were in the fourth Annual compliance report on the use of external consultants 2010/11.
