Gravil wins most votes in CIPFA council elections

Claire Gravil has topped the poll in the CIPFA council elections for 2012/13.

Gravil, who works for North East Lincolnshire Council, has been a strong performer in recent elections, coming second in each of the past two years. This year she secured 1,040 votes to represent the local government sector.

A total of 11 seats were contested. Five in the local government section, two in health, one in statutory external audit and three in ‘other employment’.

Carole Mills-Evans of Nottingham City Council came second, with 1,001 votes, followed by Mike Owen of Bury Metropolitan Borough Council with 959 votes and Brian Roberts of Leicestershire County Council with 950 votes. They will all represent the local government sector. Ken Finch, from Conwy County Borough Council is the fifth local government council member. He secured 789 votes.

Jane Cuthbertson of BT South Tyneside Ltd received 833 votes, placing her fifth overall, a slight decline on the previous two years, when she came third.

The other two CIPFA members elected to council in the ‘other employment’ category were Alison Sweeting, who is self-employed, and Richard Harbord of MRF UK Ltd. They received 719 and 562 votes respectively.

In the health sector, Mark Day of Community Health Partnerships and John Matheson of the Scottish Government Health & Social Care Directorate were elected uncontested.

In the statutory external audit category, Martin Sinclair of the National Audit Office was also elected unopposed.
