Adults who had behavioural problems as children go on to commit 80% of all crime in the UK, according to a report by the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health.
Early intervention schemes could significantly reduce these crime levels, the Chance of a lifetime report concluded.
The centre’s joint chief executive, Sean Duggan, said: ‘Conduct problems can be prevented by effective action at a young age. Pre-school parenting support for families at risk is especially good value for money.’
