Charities and community groups should play a much greater role in the provision of regional services, a think-tank has said.

In a report published on July 21, IPPR North urges that quangos and groups such as regional development agencies should be required to include third sector representatives.

Senior research fellow Katie Schmuecker said the proposals would offer voluntary organisations the chance to be part of the decision-making process from the outset. ‘The third sector needs to have an open debate about how high a priority the regional and sub-regional levels are,’ she said.
