A former chief of the Standards Board for England has been appointed to the influential Committee on Standards in Public Life.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced the appointment of CIPFA member David Prince on June 2.
The committee, led by Sir Christopher Kelly, is conducting a critical review of the MPs’ expenses system. Hearings begin on June 16 and the report — the findings of which have been accepted in advance by all parties — is expected in the autumn.
Kelly said: ‘David Prince is a very welcome addition to the team. He is joining the committee at a particularly busy time. His experience and expertise will be invaluable. I look forward to working with him.’
Prince is currently lay member and audit committee chair of the General Social Care Council, and audit committee chair of Leicestershire Police Authority.
He was chief executive of the Standards Board for England from 2004 to 2008 and previously managing director of strategy and resources at the Audit Commission.
