A director of the Audit Commission and the head of the London Development Agency are among the CIPFA members recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Peter Wilkinson, managing director of policy, research and studies at the commission, was awarded a CBE for services to local government, it was announced on June 13.

Wilkinson is the auditor’s longest-serving director, having joined its management team in 1995. He attended the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, aged 17 and later went on to serve with the Army around the world, including two emergency tours of Northern Ireland.

He joined the Ministry of Defence before moving to the Audit Commission in 1990 after retiring from the forces as a major.

‘I was astonished and delighted to receive such an honour,’ he said. ‘It’s great to have a contribution from the Audit Commission recognised in this way. I am reminded of the important role the organisation plays in the nation’s public life.’

Audit Commission chief executive Steve Bundred added that the honour was ‘a fitting recognition of Peter’s long and outstanding service’.

LDA chief executive Peter Rogers was also honoured for services to local government with a knighthood.

Rogers has been at the LDA since May 2008, having previously been chief executive at Westminster City Council.

Other institute members to be recognised were Ann Harris, deputy director of investment management at the Department for Work and Pensions, and William Wilkinson, chief executive and treasurer of the South Yorkshire Police Authority. Both received OBEs.
