The Ministry of Defence must 'take difficult decisions which lead to a realistic and affordable equipment programme', MPs have warned.
In a report published on March 27, the defence select committee highlights a number of 'concerns' about the MoD's acquisition of defence equipment.
The MoD would have to take 'difficult decisions' following the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review, the MPs found, which could mean cutting whole equipment programmes, rather than just delaying orders or making cuts in the number of platforms ordered.
Committee chair James Arbuthnot said: 'For too long, the MoD has had an unaffordable equipment programme and needs to confront the problem, rather than giving the usual response of salami-slicing and moving programmes to the right.'
