An inquiry is under way into the death of a 36-hour-old baby boy at Ipswich hospital from the MRSA superbug.
Luke Day died on February 3, and his parents accused the hospital of a cover-up after the cause of death was initially registered as septicaemia. The post mortem showed that the cause was MRSA.
Tests for MRSA on all unit personnel and equipment in the ward proved to be negative.
'We do not as yet understand how such a tragedy as this could occur when the ward and the maternity unit area are completely free from MRSA,' said Chris Dooley, acting chief executive of Ipswich Hospitals NHS Trust.
