The NHS has announced deals with six information technology suppliers which it claims will save around £30m.

The equipment will be bought as part of the multibillion pound National Programme for IT, and will include servers, network equipment and data storage. The agreements are with some of the biggest names in IT, including Cisco Systems, Hewlett Packard, Sun Microsystems and the TATA Consultancy. SeeBeyond will provide software for the NHS Care Records Service.

Gordon Hextall, chief operating officer for the National Programme, said: 'Innovative arrangements such as these are another example of the National Programme ensuring that the NHS gets the best value for the systems and services it procures.'
