The development agency Scottish Enterprise is to come under detailed scrutiny, Scotland's auditor general Bob Black confirmed this week.

Black will examine SE's performance against targets, its management of flagship projects and its use of consultants and contractors.

The detailed brief comes after critical reports of the agency's activities – it received £426m of public funding last year as well as an additional £75m from other sources.

It will also include an assessment of SE's use of budgets and applications for European Union funding.

The agency's annual report on September 2 claimed it had met 21 of 22 annual performance targets.
