Paul Boateng, the chief secretary to the Treasury, has been confirmed as the closing speaker at this year's CIPFA conference.

Other high-profile contributors include Charles Kennedy, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Neil Kinnock, vice-president for administrative reform at the European Commission, and Rod Aldridge, the executive chair of Capita. Also speaking are Scotland's auditor general Bob Black, and Anna Klonowski, director of finance and performance for the London Borough of Hackney.

Sessions from maverick MP Tony Banks and Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee will add an element of controversy to the proceedings.

The conference will take place in Harrogate on June 10-12 under the theme 'On the front line – adding value, making it work'.

The opening day will also include a ceremony to announce the winners of the Public Reporting and Accountability Awards organised by CIPFA and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Readers should find a copy of the conference agenda inserted into this issue of Public Finance. Further copies can be obtained from Heather Singer at CIPFA on 020 7543 5872.
