The fight against street crime in the West Midlands has been taken to the Internet. Pictures of the 'ten most wanted' suspects in the region have been posted on the West Midlands Police Force website.

Those logging on to the site are told they could qualify for a £500 reward for information that leads to any of the men being charged. They are also warned not to approach them. The picture campaign forms part of Operation Safer Streets, a Birmingham-based anti-robbery initiative, which has now gone nationwide thanks to additional government funding of £3.3m.

West Midlands' Chief Constable David Crew said: 'This is not a flash in the pan. Although Safer Streets is being expanded force-wide, it will continue without time limit.'

Among those featured on the site is Vincent Michael Palmer, 34, a convicted armed robber serving a 13-year sentence who escaped during a further trial for conspiracy to rob a post office.
