Paul Cook hits the spot (Letters, April 3–9). While global finance goes into meltdown, we have to count up the number of hours of unused flexitime and annual leave as of March 31.
Only the accountant who dreamt up this meaningless calculation can tell us what added value this exercise brings. What I can be sure of, though, is that the ordinary ‘Joe Public’ probably doesn’t give a penny rate for this statistic and continues to wonder why we’re worth our pensions.
I look forward to seeing the outcomes of Ian Carruthers’ work to make our accounts ‘both shorter and more understandable’, and hope we also keep in mind ‘added value’ to the ratepayer.
