MPs back Lister as next HCA chair

MPs have endorsed Sir Edward Lister, a former deputy mayor of London to Boris Johnson, as chair of the Homes and Communities Agency.

The communities and local government select committee said Lister is a suitable candidate for the post following a pre-appointment hearing earlier this week.

The HCA is an executive non-departmental public body, which regulates social housing providers in England and is also responsible for boosting housebuilding. Its former chair, Robert Napier, left his post in December 2015.

CLG committee chair Clive Betts said: “The Homes and Communities Agency has an important role to play in delivering the government’s housing targets and regulating the social housing sector. On the basis of the evidence presented to us, we believe that Sir Edward has the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to undertake the role of chair and we wish him well in the post.”

Lister also acted as chief of staff to Johnson until the end of his term as mayor in May.
