Ministers have stepped in to clear up a bureaucratic bungle at the Housing Corporation after it emerged that decisions were wrongly delegated by its board.

The corporation discovered late last year that decisions taken below board level were open to legal challenges although, to date, none has been made. Since January 12, all decisions have been taken by the full board.

Housing minister Yvette Cooper announced on February 14 that the government would legislate to bring the corporation into line with other public bodies that can delegate to committees and senior staff.

The corporation said it did not believe there was a serious risk that previous decisions would be successfully challenged.
