Housing Corporation chief executive Norman Perry is to step down early – just a month after Peter Dixon took over as the organisation's new chair.

When Perry joined the corporation in October 2000, he signed a three-year contract with an option to extend it for another two years. But, following discussions with Dixon, he is to leave next March, when he will be 60.

Perry, who described his relationship with Dixon as 'cordial and professional', said next spring was the obvious time to depart as the government will have concluded its end-to-end review of the corporation, designed to reduce bureaucracy.

He will also have completed the corporation's medium-term strategy and 2004 Spending Review submission, as well as overseeing the introduction of its new investment strategy.

'I have always wanted to do the best for the Housing Corporation,' Perry told Public Finance. 'The worst thing would be if I started to implement a new programme and somebody else had to come in and take over.'
