CIPFA president Diane Colley is to take early retirement from Rugby Borough Council, where she has been chief executive and chief financial officer for the past ten years.

Colley is retiring on health grounds following an announcement in December that she was suffering from a serious health condition and was taking extended sick leave.

Council leader Craig Humphrey said: 'Diane has been our chief executive since 1996, when she was one of the youngest chief executives in the country. It is particularly sad that her career has been ended prematurely by ill health.

'I'm sure everyone will want to join with the council in thanking Diane for the contribution she has made to the council and the borough over the years and wishing her well for the future.'

Colley, who spent 13 years in total at the authority, thanked those who had sent supportive messages. 'I'm confident that Rugby will continue to go from strength to strength – it is a great area with huge potential and I will watch, with continuing interest, its development in the future.'

She retains her honorary position as CIPFA president, but will not be able to carry out her institute duties for the immediate future while she is ill. During this period, vice-president Caroline Gardner will deputise.
