Andrew Warwick-Thompson has been appointed chief executive of LGPS Central, which manages £40bn worth of assets for nine midlands-based Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) funds.

Warwick-Thompson is currently the executive director for regulatory policy at The Pensions Regulator and will take up his new role in July.

Warwick-Thompson will work with Joanne Segars, the non-executive chair of LGPS Central, to build the senior management team which aims to achieve Financial Conduct Authority authorisation to enable the management funds assets in April next year.

Segars said she was pleased to welcome him to the team and was looking forward to working with him.

“His appointment is a significant step forward and I am delighted that we have been able to secure the services of someone with his undoubted talents,” she said.

Warwick-Thompson said: “I am a firm believer in the benefits of asset pooling, and look forward to ensuring that LGPS Central can deliver both the economies of scale and the investment performance expected by the participating funds.”
