Olympic staff head public sector honours list

The team of public servants who ensured the success of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games were among the recipients of the latest round of honours

The team of public servants who ensured the success of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games were among the recipients of the latest round of honours.

David Goldstone, a CIPFA member and programme director at the Government Olympic Executive, received a CBE for services to the ‘financial administration’ of the Games.

The chief executive of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Lord Deighton, was made a knight commander of the Order of the British Empire and Jeremy Beeton, director general of the Government Olympic Executive, was made a Commander of the Order of the Bath. Locog chair Lord Coe was made a Companion of Honour.

Three other CIPFA members were honoured. Eileen Hallissey, head of accounting, finance, planning and performance at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, received the OBE. Alan Foster, chief executive of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, was given an MBE for services to the health service.

Clive Grace, the former chair of the Local Better Regulation Office, and an honorary CIPFA member, also received the OBE.

In local government, there was a CBE for Caroline Tapster, former chief executive of Hertfordshire County Council, and an OBE for Sharon Taylor, leader of Stevenage Borough Council and deputy chair of the Local Government Association.

Other public servants to be honoured included: Ursula Brennan, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Justice, who was made a dame; Bernard Hogan-Howe, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, who was knighted; and Transport for London commissioner Peter Hendy, who was also knighted.

In Scotland, there were OBEs for Eileen Moir, former executive director of nursing at Health Improvement Scotland, and for former sheriff Isobel Poole.

Wyn Price, head of emergencies for the Welsh Government, received an OBE, while Oswyn Paulin, head of the Government Legal Service in Northern Ireland, was made a Companion of Honour.
