Ten rising stars of finance were recognised last week at a ceremony in central London attended by senior figures from across the public sector.

The ‘Future Leaders’ were presented with their awards by CIPFA president Roger Latham, who praised the winners for their achievements so far and the potential to go further in their careers.

‘Our Future Leaders all have a passion for public services. They want to make a difference and see themselves as facilitators and not the “abominable no men and women of finance”,’ he said.

‘People such as these are the future for our profession – and it’s clear that the future is in safe hands.’

The Future Leaders were identified following a competition organised by Public Finance and CIPFA in association with Hays Accountancy & Finance. They come from local government, central government, the third sector, audit firms and the NHS.

Latham, who was a member of the Future Leaders judging panel, said that the quality of the entries had been maintained in the second year of the scheme.

‘A lot has happened since our first ceremony, not least the worst recession for 60 years, record borrowing levels and the prospect of huge cuts to the public services. If ever the finance profession needed strong leadership, it’s now.’

Profiles of the winners will be included in a special supplement published with the October 30 issue of PF.
