Special antisocial behaviour orders for drunk people have been criticised by magistrates.
Under new powers introduced on August 31, police and councils can prevent people who have been caught acting in an antisocial manner while drunk from entering pubs and off-licences. However, Magistrates Association chair John Thornhill called the proposals ‘nonsense’.
‘If you try banning [offenders] from all the pubs in the town, who is going to tell all the pubs in the town?
‘Many of the supermarkets now have a licence to sell alcohol. It’s going to be nonsense really,’ he said.
