LGA and NHS warn of social services cash shortfall

The Local Government Association and the NHS Confederation have joined forces to press Chancellor Gordon Brown over what they claim is a £1bn gap in social services provision.

In a joint letter to Health Secretary Alan Milburn, LGA chair Sir Jeremy Beecham and Dianne Jeffrey, chair of the NHS body, warn of the need for 'immediate additional funding' for local authority social services.
