Call for bus firms to justify subsidies

Passenger transport authorities this week urged ministers to introduce detailed contracts for private bus operators.

The move came amid concerns over an alleged £1.2bn 'black hole' in subsidies.

West Midlands PTA chair Richard Worrall said: 'PTAs pay a huge amount to private firms to subsidise non-commercial routes, and they should be required to provide a detailed breakdown of where that money is spent.'
