Housing minister announces first tranche of planning fund

26 Feb 18

The first tranche of a fund aimed at speeding up planning decisions will be £15.8m, spread among 68 projects, housing minister Dominic Raab has announced.

The Planning Delivery Fund is intended to help councils work together on joint local plans and core strategies, to identify locations suitable for new homes where demand is greatest.

The fund can also be used to support adoption of best practice to speed up the processing of planning applications.

Raab said: “This cash boost ensures councils have the resources needed to make quicker decisions on planning applications, delivering quality housing at a faster rate.”

He has split the money into three streams: the joint working fund (£9.4m), the design quality fund (£4.82m) and the promoting innovation fund (£1.07m).

These will help 68 projects in all with the highest award being £950,000 to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority for a new ‘place team’ and mayoral development corporations.
