Prime Minister David Cameron has moved energy minister John Hayes to the Cabinet Office to act as his senior parliamentary adviser.

In a mini-reshuffle of his ministerial team, Cameron also announced that Michael Fallon would replace Hayes as minister of state at the Department of Energy and Climate Change. Fallon will take this post in addition to his current role as minister of state at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Cameron said he was ‘delighted’ Hayes would take the role of minister without portfolio, which will involve liaising between the Conservative parliamentary party and Number 10.

Announcing the changes, Cameron tweeted: ‘Delighted John Hayes joining me as a senior parliamentary adviser – and Michael Fallon adding a key energy role to his brief.’
