Ministers have given the green light to a Local Enterprise Partnership for Northamptonshire, bringing the total approved to 38.

The LEP, which will cover the entire county, represents almost 25,000 businesses. It plans to create 70,000 new jobs over the next 15 years. Other priorities include the rollout of superfast broadband, regeneration and support for the tourism industry.

Announcing the LEP on September 23, decentralisation minister Greg Clark said Northamptonshire had ‘huge potential for growth’. The LEP would allow the county to become a ‘powerhouse’ for the wider economy, he said.

Clark added: ‘We now have 38 Local Enterprise Partnerships that are a testament to the strength of local leadership, ideas and ambition across the country and will help create a fairer, more balanced economy driven by private sector strength.’

Business minister Mark Prisk added that LEPs were making ‘excellent progress’ in bringing together their plans for local growth.
