Voluntary organisations are being invited to bid for two new funds to help address crime and antisocial behaviour, the Home Office announced today.

A £5m crime prevention fund is aimed at bringing together citizens and encouraging new ways of working. A further £5m will be available in this fund in 2012/13.

A separate £4m ‘Choices Fund’ will support the development of ‘innovative local solutions’ to reduce substance misuse and offending by young people.

Home Office minister Baroness Angela Browning said the voluntary sector played a ‘vital role’ in encouraging communities to work together.

‘This new funding will help us to drive up action, encourage more creative solutions and build safer neighbourhoods for everyone,’ she said.

Baroness Newlove, the government’s champion for active safer communities, added: ‘This funding will give communities suffering the effects of crime and antisocial behaviour much more of a say in reclaiming their neighbourhoods and making change happen.’

The deadline for applications from voluntary organisations is August 18.
