Welsh Assembly Members have today voted to nominate Huw Vaughan Thomas as the next auditor general for Wales.

A former council chief executive and a first-language Welsh speaker, Vaughan Thomas is expected to take up his post in the autumn.

At his pre-appointment hearing last month, Vaughan Thomas told Assembly members he wanted to make the Wales Audit Office a more accessible and responsive organisation.

Jonathan Morgan, chair of the Welsh Assembly public accounts committee, welcomed the nomination and offered his ‘sincerest thanks’ to Gillian Body for her work as interim auditor general at the WAO.
