The Scottish Government has been told to review the system of paying bonuses to senior executives in the public sector following an inquiry by MSPs.

The Scottish Parliament finance committee said the bonus arrangements should be ‘altered or brought to an end’ when appointments came up for renewal.

Convener Andrew Welsh said: ‘The committee makes clear to the Scottish Government that the policy of paying bonuses to senior staff should be reviewed.’

The MSPs were told that under current public sector pay policy, the maximum potential bonus was 10%, but ministers could approve a higher amount in exceptional circumstances.
