London Councils chair Merrick Cockell has joined the board of the Audit Commission.
Cockell, who is also leader of the Conservative Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, joins Steve Houghton, Labour leader of Barnsley District Council and Chris White, Liberal Democrat member of Hertfordshire County Council, as the three serving councillors on the board.
Commission chair Michael O’Higgins said Cockell’s background would be particularly valuable in the development of ‘oneplace’, the comprehensive assessment of health, policing, schools and local authority services to be launched in December.
