Northern Ireland's largest road scheme is the main element of an ambitious programme to regenerate the province's second city of Derry, secretary of state Peter Hain has announced.
Improved transport infrastructure was the main recommendation of a renewal plan published by urban regeneration firm Ilex. Some £375m is to be spent on the road infrastructure in Derry and its link with Belfast.
The plan also proposes upgrading the council-owned City of Derry airport to full international standard.
An extra £10m is to be allocated for preservation of the city's historic walls, to support the council's attempt to have them recognised as a World Heritage Site.
