Parents' fundraising activities are helping to supplement the purchase of core school equipment, the National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations claimed this week.
According to an NCPTA survey, schools across England, Wales and Northern Ireland raised £73m over the past academic year. On average, each member association raised £5,600.
Annette Wiles, policy and research manager at the NCPTA, said the money was not being spent only on extra activities.
'Now many PTAs are spending money on things such as computer suites and their installation,' she said, adding that primary schools were particularly reliant on contributions from PTAs.
